Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Homecoming on this campus is always exciting and everyone is gearing up for the big weekend. Friday night will be the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and this year there is great football representation.

Builder Paul Giannelia, WR Andy Baechler, RB Nick Cameron, LB Giancarlo Rapanaro and in the Team category the whole 2005 Vanier Cup winning team in this the 10th anniversary year.

Congratulations to women’s hockey players Andrea Ironside and Lauren Barch, and women’s lacrosse player Kirsten Gerrie who will also all be inducted Friday night.

The big homecoming game is Saturday at 1pm against the Windsor Lancers. Coming off of the bye week, we are getting healthier as a team and look to get back to our winning ways. The forecast looks like it will be perfect football weather (20 and sunny) and the players are excited to play in front of a packed house.

Here’s what is happening:

Correction to our CFL Alumni list
When asking the CFL head office for a list of former Laurier players who played in the CFL, they quickly gave me a list and we had the names put on nine CFL plaques (one for each team).

This week that list grew as we contacted the CFL asking for records of players from Waterloo Lutheran. These players were mistakenly listed under the University of Waterloo. This exercise has added eight more names to our CFL alumni list and the CFL head office has made the correction. See the updated list here:

2016 Committed Recruits
Have already added a couple very talented recruits for the 2016 season. Both Tristan and Josh are on the top 100 list of recruits in the country.

QB Tristan Arndt 6’2” 185lbs from A.B Lucas Secondary in London
WR Josh Perez 6’2” 200lbs from Lorne Park in Mississauga

Post-Game Reception
Please join our coaches, players, parents, alumni and other Golden Hawk fans shortly after the game in the Turret for some refreshments and appetizers.

Players of the Week Lunch
No player of the week lunch this Thursday as we are coming off of the bye week. We will have it again next Thursday, October 1st at 12pm.
