WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks announced today the football players of the week for Week 9 of the season and they include running back Eric Guiltinan on offence, linebacker Brandon Calver on defence, and returner Carson Ouellette on special teams

The Laurier Football Players of the Game are recognized weekly at the Quarterback Club luncheon. This week’s luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 29 in the Hawk’s Nest and will run from noon to 1 p.m.

Guiltinan, a native on London, Ont., had the best game of his OUA career on Saturday in Laurier’s playoff-clinching 49-26 win over the Queen’s Gaels. The fourth year business major eclipsed the 100 yard rushing mark in a game for the first time in his career as he carried the ball 13 times for 107 yards. He also scored two of Laurier’s three offensive touchdowns on the afternoon, the first time he’s found the endzone more than once in a game. Guiltinan’s performance highlighted an excellent day on the ground for the Hawks as they finished the day with 266 yards rushing.

Calver, also from London, Ont., had a career afternoon of his own for the purple and gold in their victory over Queen’s on their Homecoming weekend. The third year arts major led a defensive effort that saw Laurier score two defensive touchdowns, force six turnovers and record four sacks. Calver alone contributed a single-game career-high of 10 total tackles, recorded one of Laurier’s four sacks on the day and was in the backfield all afternoon making life difficult for the Gaels’ quarterback.

Finally, Ouellette, originally from Windsor, Ont., gave the Hawks a special teams boost in their regular season finale against the Gaels. The second year arts major ran back one kickoff return for 58 yards which set up Laurier’s first offensive touchdown of the day early in the third quarter. He also returned three punts for a total of 68 yards, highlighted by a 57-yard return midway through the third quarter which set up the Hawks 1st and goal from the Gaels two-yard line. Ouellette would finish the day with 126 returns yards on four attempts.

The Laurier Football players of the week are presented by OneCard and the Laurier Bookstore.
