WATERLOO, ON – Women’s soccer forward Nicole Lyon and men’s football running back Dillon Campbell have been honoured as the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 1, 2015.
Second year forward Nicole Lyon was a key player behind the women’s soccer team’s 1-0 quarter-final victory over the Windsor Lancers this weekend. The sociology major from Kitchener, Ont., displayed her soccer prowess as she controlled the ball along the sidelines, split two defenders, and dished a perfect through ball to her teammate to engineer the game’s only goal. With the win, the Hawks advance to OUA Semifinals against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
This is Lyon’s fourth time being honoured as the Laurier Female Athlete of the Week and her second time this year.
Once again proving why he is considered the top running back in the country, Campbell had another stellar performance in the 29-15 Quarter-final victory over the defending Yates Cup Champions, the McMaster Marauders, this weekend. The fifth year kinesiology and physical education major from Whitby, Ont., rushed for a school record of 295 yards and set the single-game OUA record for carries, running 40 times in the contest. The victory advances the Golden Hawks to the OUA semifinals next weekend against the Western Mustangs.
This is Campbell’s 11th time earning Laurier Male Athlete of the Week status and his fourth time this year.
