Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Final exams are just around the corner, so our players are busy preparing for those. Many finish exams in mid-December, while some will write during the very last time slot at 7pm on December 23rd. They will then be off until classes begin on Monday, January 4th. This is also the day when we will start our early morning workouts. Then, that Friday, January 8th, will be our first off-season practice at RIM Park.

This past week, Strength Coach Alena Luciani tested the players in a couple of weight lifting exercises. This gives us a great baseline, so we can then test them again during the off-season to gauge how hard they are working and see just how much everyone is improving their strength.

With the season being just three months long, the weight room is where we spend most of our time. These workouts not only benefit the players on the field, but it forces them to get up and out of bed and start their day off well.

Here’s what is happening:

Player Exit Meeting
Next week, I will meet with every member of the team. Exit meetings are a great way to get feedback from the players individually and it gives me a chance to express to each and every player what our staff believes they need to work on to improve.

Exit meetings occur this time of year to recap the season and to set us up for when the players return in January. They also occur in April after spring camp so, once again, the players and coaches are always on the same page.

The OFSAA Bowls took place Monday through Wednesday last week at Tim Horton’s field in Hamilton. Over those three days, many of our coaches and scouts were there to see all 18 teams play. This now marks the end of the high school season and we switch our focus to on campus visits.

The next two weeks are filled with on-campus visits before the recruiting blackout over the Christmas break. Next week we will have a few more recruit commit announcements to make.

Adopt-A-Hawk – $29,706 and counting
The season is now over, but we still need your continued support! We have closed the gap to the top teams in this conference and to get over the hump will take all of us. We are well on our way to eclipsing the $33,000 that we raised last year as a team.
