The Laurier football program is very excited to announce the commitment of receiver Gord Lam of the Cambridge Lions (Ontario Varsity Football League) and St Mary’s Catholic Secondary School (Kitchener). The 5’11”, 180 pound Lam is currently a “CFC Top 100” ranked player.
Lam played for the silver medalists from Team Ontario in this past summer’s Canada Cup National Championship tournament in Quebec. He delivered in the clutch in the semi-final game, hauling in a 37-yard pass on 2nd & 10 in the final minute with Team Ontario trailing Alberta 17-13. Two plays later, Lam scored the game-winning TD reception to propel his team to the gold medal game.
In the summer OVFL season, Lam caught 39 passes for 487 yards and thee TDs, while also carrying the ball nine times for 72 yards and another touchdown. In his final high school season this fall, Lam was a part of a St. Mary’s team that made it to the semi-finals before bowing out.
“We are thrilled to add a local player with the talent of Gord’s,” said Laurier Head Coach Michael Faulds.
“He showed his potential this summer on Team Ontario and we are excited to see him grow as a student-athlete on and off the field here at Laurier”.
Lam will study Sociology at Wilfrid Laurier University.
