Laurier strengthens defensive line with latest recruit

Laurier Football is very excited to announce the commitment of defensive end Alfred Green of the Ontario Varsity Football League’s (OVFL) Durham West Dolphins.

The 6’3″, 230lb Green was a 2015 OVFL all-star at his position for the Dolphins, registering 42.5 tackles along with five sacks and one forced fumble. Green also led the Dolphins with 104 total defensive points.

Laurier Recruiting Coordinator Dwayne Cameron described Green as “a great addition to this recruiting class.”

“Alfred has great athleticism and an explosive first step. At 230lbs, he is bigger than current all-Canadian DE Kwaku Boaten when he arrived here, but possesses similar quickness.”

Green is a solid prospect who was also a member of Team Ontario in 2013 that competed for the Canada Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Alfred will join fellow Dolphin alum and defensive tackle Trevaughan James on the Laurier defensive line, with the latter entering his second year with the Golden Hawks. Linebacker Matt Williams and long-snapper Jack Moore (both of whom will be entering their second year as well) round out the trio of Durham West Dolphin players that were already on the roster before Green’s commitment.

Green will study Sociology at Laurier. He also considered Waterloo, McMaster, Guelph and St. Francis Xavier during the recruiting process.
