Versatile defensive standout joins Golden Hawks

Laurier Football is excited to announce the commitment of 2016 CFC Top 100 defensive back Damian Lombardi of the Pickering Dolphins and St Mary’s High School. The 6’0, 190lb Lombardi is a physical player who has played numerous positions for the Dolphins organization – including free safety, middle linebacker, and halfback. His size will make him a prospect to play in the secondary as well as at the dime linebacker position for the Hawks.

Lombardi represented Team Ontario against Team USA in Arlington, Texas in January of 2014. Damian began playing football in the ninth grade and has CFL aspirations.

“I decided to commit to Laurier because of their great program. I want to be remembered as a good person off the field and I hope to play in the CFL,” said Lombardi.

“I feel that Laurier will help me achieve those goals. I can’t wait to get started!

Lombardi is the most recent in an impressive list of defensive backs that Laurier has attracted out of the Pickering area. The list includes long-time CFL player Yannick Carter (St Mary’s High School), current Toronto Argonaut Shane Herbert (Pickering High School) and 2013 OUA All-Star Felix Odum (Dunbarton High School).

“Damian is a good prospect as his size projects that he can play in multiple spots,” said Laurier Defensive Backs Coach Dwayne Cameron.

“We will see where he is best suited athletically and work to help him achieve his personal goals while he helps us achieve our team goals”.
