“Hybrid” defender a welcome addition to linebacking corps

Cowan
Laurier Football is very happy to announce the commitment of Brad Cowan from the Bel Air Norsemen of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) in Ottawa.

As a  6’2″, 205 lb linebacker,  Cowan currently attends South Carleton High School in Richmond, Ontario. He has been a “hybrid” player for the Norsemen, playing both at the defensive end and linebacker position.

Cowan is a multi-sport athlete, having  played hockey as well. Off the field, he trains with former Golden Hawk player (and Laurier Athletics Hall Of Famer) Donnie Ruiz. Ruiz has high hopes for his pupil.

“Brad is an excellent example of an athlete that is focused and hungry to be at his best. Big things are ahead for this solid young man,” Ruiz said.

Cowan will transition full-time to the linebacker position group when he joins the Golden Hawks. Laurier Recruiting Coordinator Dwayne Cameron described him as “one of those “heart of your team” type players.”

“He isn’t flashy and is certainly a little under the radar recruiting wise but, make no mistake, he will be a solid player here,” Cameron said.

“Brad plays with a lot of tenacity and a high motor, exactly the characteristics you look for in a prospect. Add good athletic ability and length at 6’2″ and he is ideally suited for us at linebacker and for Special Teams.”

Cowan is a strong student academically with an 80%+ average and will study Communications at Laurier.
