Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

It is an important day for all of us as we are all dealing with our own mental health issues or we know someone close to us that is. Although many would say university is the best time of your life, it is also the time where stress, anxiety, sleep deprivation and many other mental health issues can creep into play.

We have a fantastic support system here at Laurier and our players are constantly reminded to never hold anything within and to seek help from our staff or support systems on campus when they aren’t feeling quite themselves. Together, we can get through anything.

Here’s what is happening:

The 17th Annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner
Presented once again by Sun Life Financial will be held Thursday, April 28th at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener, Ontario.

We are excited that this year we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1991 Vanier Cup winning team. That year, our Golden Hawks beat the Mount Allison Mounties 25-18 in front of over 30,000 fans at Skydome.

Winter Practice #3
You can see the speed of our team increasing just three practices in. The first few weeks back from the holidays, everyone was getting back into the swing of things and thinking a little too much. This past Friday, it was evident that the energy and speed was back in full force and we had our best practice of the year – by far.

We are back at the RIM Park again this Friday from 3pm – 5pm for anyone interested in watching.

Thrilled to add another outstanding player to this year’s recruiting class; linebacker Brad Cowan from Ottawa is a fantastic addition to our locker room.

Adopt-A-Hawk – $32,336 and counting
We are almost there! The goal of passing last year’s total of $33,000 is well within reach now and we still have four more months in this fiscal year.

Thank you to all that have helped us reach this goal. It helps our program greatly and we are closing the gap with the OUA’s top teams.
