Laurier Football is very happy to announce the commitment of linebacker Daniel Szatmari from Canada Prep High School in Welland, Ontario.
Szatmari’s journey to Canada Prep is an interesting one. Born in Toronto, Daniel moved to his parent’s native country of Hungary. While growing-up, he learned to play “American” football. His passion for the sport led him to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba to attend high school, where he attended and played for St. Paul’s Catholic High School.
The 6’1 220 lb Szatmari is a very physical player and competes to challenge himself to his limits. He is projected to play at the middle linebacker position for the Hawks and brings a combination of toughness and athleticism that will serve him well during his time as a Golden Hawk.
Szatmari has played all three linebacker positions at Canada Prep and plays smart and fast. He is a hitter. Laurier Special Teams Coordinator Dwayne Cameron is “very excited about welcoming Daniel to the program.”
“Daniel is a team player. He will do whatever you ask of him to help the team,” Cameron said.
“He excels in special teams, which is exactly what you hope for with prospects at the linebacker position”.
Szatmari is an excellent student and will study Business at Laurier. On why he chose Laurier, Daniel says “the combination of Business and football at Laurier is outstanding. Laurier is a place that I can be successful”.
