“On the rise” program draws Team Ontario defensive back

IreyomiLaurier Football is very happy to announce the commitment of Adem Ireyomi, a 5’11 180 lb defensive back from Windsor Holy Names Catholic Secondary School and Team Ontario.

Ireyomi has been on the Hawks’ radar since playing for Laurier Defensive Backs Coach Dwayne Cameron on Team Ontario in the 2015 International Bowl vs Team USA in Arlington, Texas. He also earned a position on Team Ontario for this past summer’s Canada Cup Tournament in Quebec; an event where he helped the team win a silver medal.

Ireyomi actually committed to Laurier last week in Arlington where he and Coach Cameron were reunited again in this year’s International Bowl.

During his time with perennial contender Holy Names, Ireyomi was named a Windsor & Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association (WECSSAA) first-team All-City at defensive back this past season. He was also named Holy Names Special Teams Player Of The Year. Holy Names alum on Laurier’s current roster include OUA All-Star Defensive Back Malcolm Thompson and WR/PR Carson Ouellette.

Ireyomi commented how “the great community feel the school and campus gives off” was a contributing factor on why he knew that Laurier was the right place for him.

“The football program is on the rise and I feel it was the best fit for me academically and athletically,” he said.

Laurier Defensive Backs Coach Dwayne Cameron is very happy to have Adem in the Golden Hawks backfield.

“First off, Adem has a very engaging personality. From a football standpoint, he is an aggressive open-field tackler with good speed who also has already learned many of our coverage techniques and rules. That will accelerate his ability to come in and challenge to play.”

Ireyomi is planning on studying Kinesiology at Laurier.
