Laurier football is happy to announce the commitment of fullback Cal Taylor of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary in London, ON.
The 6’2″, 211 lb Taylor actually committed on his official visit. He is a two-way player for Laurier SS, playing defensive tackle and fullback – while also adding experience on the offensive line during his grade 11 season.
The fullback/offensive line/defensive line combination is what attracted the Golden Hawks to Taylor.
Laurier Recruiting Coordinator Dwayne Cameron commented how ” his background playing offensive line, in addition to fullback, is the perfect double-play for us when it comes to recruiting fullback/tight ends,” he said, adding, “Cal is also a hockey player, so we know he brings an element of toughness to this position.”
Taylor was named a 2014 and 2015 Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) All-Star on the defensive line. He was also awarded Laurier SS’s Defensive Player Of The Year in 2014 and was also named the school’s Graduating Athlete Of The Year in 2014-2015, before opting to return for another year.
Having already been accepted into the Geography program at Laurier, Taylor has clealry exemplified academic prowess. His strong marks is allowing him to also consider a couple of other academic options at WLU.
On why he felt Laurier was the place for him to call “home”, Taylor commented how “Laurier’s rich community lifestyle, academic excellence and athletics provide the framework for me to develop into both the scholar and athlete I wish to become.”
