Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

The team is really coming together. This past Friday’s practice was definitely the best one of the year and our whole coaching staff came away pleased and impressed. Still a lot of room for improvement and many things to work on, but we got a glimpse of what we think can be a pretty darn good football team this year. This all stems from a team working extremely hard each and every day and everyone having a team first mentality.

Just three more weeks until we finish our indoor workouts and head outside for spring camp. Luckily, our field isn’t buried under three feet of snow like it typically is this time of year, so practices will run smoothly. We also have a couple combined practices that our players are excited about. On Thursday March 24th, we will head over to McMaster to practice with the Marauders and then on Saturday April 2nd we will conclude spring camp by hosting the Waterloo Warriors.

Here’s what is happening:

Braydon Noll from Trinity College has committed and is a nice addition to our defensive line:

Additionally, I’m really pleased with the recruiting class this year. Recruiting Coordinator Dwayne Cameron – along with our team of scouts and coaches – have done a fantastic job adding more talent and depth to every position. We are now nearing the end of this recruiting class with maybe five more commits to go.

The 17th Annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner
Presented once again by Sun Life Financial the dinner will be held Thursday, April 28th at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener, Ontario.

Paul Giannelia will be the keynote speaker. Paul is the President and CEO of SC Infrastructure and he was also the Project Director of Canada’s Confederation Bridge

We are excited that this year we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1991 Vanier Cup winning team.

Women’s Hockey on to OUA Semifinals
Congrats to Coach Rick Osborne and the women’s hockey team for winning a triple overtime game vs Toronto 2-1 to move on to the second round of the playoffs. They will now start a series vs the Guelph Gryphons this week.

Adopt-A-Hawk: $33,666 – and counting. THANK YOU!
Our goal at the beginning of the year of surpassing $33,000 has been accomplished. Thank you to all that have helped us reach this goal. It helps our program greatly and we are closing the gap with the OUA’s top teams.
