Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

It has been a very busy and fun week of Spring Camp and the team is really starting to come together. With last Thursday’s ice storm our practice at McMaster got moved to this past Wednesday. We had a beautiful sunny and clear 10 degree day to compete against McMaster and it was nice to finally compete against a different colour jersey. The two teams competed in one-on-ones, Pass Skelly, Inside Run and finished up with a Team period.

On Offense, our receivers did a fantastic job in the one-on-one period, led by Carson Ouellette and Marcus Arkarakas – along with some great throws by the quarterbacks.

When it got to the team period we struggled a bit, but both running backs Osayi Iginuan and Eli Fera had nice gains on screen passes.

On defence, linebacker Noah Usherwood had an interception in the Pass Skelly session and, when it came to the team period, our defensive line was phenomenal. They were able to stop the run and get pressure on the quarterback, led by Jalen Price, Rashari Henry, Robbie Smith and Emerson Gourdet.

Defensive back Malcolm Thompson was solid in coverage and had a few knock downs.

In Special Teams, we had three punts and two punt returns. Kicker Nathan Mesher averaged 38 yards per punt and our coverage was very good. On returns, both Carson Ouellette and William Pitt-Doe are very dangerous anytime they touch the ball.

Our Spring Camp will conclude this Saturday April 2nd as we host Waterloo at University Stadium at 10am. Everyone is welcome to come out and watch as we will once again compete against the Warriors in many different drills.

Here’s what is happening:

Coaches Clinic
The first on-field clinic was very well received with roughly 30 coaches who braved a rainy day. Coaches travelled from Brampton, Oakville, Brantford, London and many from Kitchener-Waterloo. All the feedback has been positive and we will definitely do this again. Maybe even this August during training camp.
