Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Spring Camp
We concluded Spring Camp last Saturday morning and did so by having a practice with the Waterloo Warriors. Both teams competed in 1-on-1s, Pass Skelly and Team.

Our defensive front was once again causing havoc. Kwaku Boateng was virtually unblockable and linebackers Nakas Onyeka and Brandon Calver made several plays. First year defensive back Scott Hutter played very well and had an interception.

On the offensive side we were able to run the ball. Eric Guiltinan, Levondre Gordon and Tre Nicholson all had good runs. Through the air receiver Noah Olynyk caught a deep pass from Quarterback Julien John.

Athletic Banquet
Congratulations to all the student athletes who received awards at Monday’s Laurier Athletics Banquet. From our team, receiver Greg Nyhof took home the Bill Haggstrom Trophy which is awarded to the male contributing most to Athletics.

Defensive end Kwaku Boateng also came away with an award, winning the male Luke Fusco Academic Athletic Achievement Award.

A couple other football players were finalists for other major awards. Receiver Kurleigh Gittens JR was a finalist for the Rich Newbrough Rookie of the Year Award (which was awarded to Simon Mikre from men’s basketball) and Running Back Dillon Campbell was a finalist for the President’s Award given to the male athlete of the year (which was awarded to Aaron Squires from Men’s Curling).
