Laurier football weekly update

fauldsGolden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Just two weeks away from 17th Annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner presented once again by Sun Life Financial. The dinner will be held Thursday, April 28th at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener, Ontario. Due to a scheduling conflict, our guest speaker Paul Giannelia will not be able to attend.

We do, however, have a great evening planned and will instead have four of our football alumni and current CFL players: Courtney Stephen of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Shamawd Chambers of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Shane Herbert of the Toronto Argonauts and Ese Mrabure-Ajufo from the BC Lions in a roundtable discussion led by our Master of Ceremonies Andy Baechler.

The night will also include honouring the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Hawks that played in the College Bowl and the 25th anniversary of the 1991 Vanier Cup winning team. As well, there are some fantastic items in both the silent and live auctions. CIS East-West Bowl: Montreal May 14th, 1pm
I’m excited to have four of our players playing in the CIS all-star game this year in Montreal, including defensive linemen Kwaku Boateng and Jalen Price and linebackers Nakas Onyeka and Brandon Calver. https://laurierfootball.com/2016/04/13/golden-hawks-named-to-cis-east-west-bowl-roster/#more-1448

Recruiting
It was a busy weekend of recruiting at the Team Ontario Red/Black weekend. This is a yearly event with 90 of Ontario’s best grade 10 & 11 high school football players. The top 45 of these players will be selected to make Team Ontario and compete in the Canada Cup this year in Winnipeg.

There’s lots of talent this year and our staff did a great job of being visible and speaking to many prospects. We had by far the most coaches and scouts (14) see at least one of the practices or game.

Kids Football Camp
