Laurier football weekly update

fauldsGolden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

I’m excited for Thursday and the 17th Annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner presented, once again, by Sun Life Financial.

A reminder that the dinner will be held Thursday, April 28th at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener. The fun evening will include honouring the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Hawks that played in the College Bowl and the 25th anniversary of the 1991 Vanier Cup winning team.

We will also be hearing from four of our football alumni and current CFL players: Courtney Stephen of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Shamawd Chambers of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Shane Herbert of the Toronto Argonauts and Ese Mrabure-Ajufo from the BC Lions in a roundtable discussion led by our Master of Ceremonies Andy Baechler. Additionally, there are some fantastic items in both the silent and live auctions.

Here’s what is happening:
Coach Cameron & Coach Surya to Coordinate Team West in CIS East/West Bowl
Team West will be in familiar hands as Coach Dwayne Cameron will coordinate the defence and Coach Mark Surya will coordinate the offence.

Also in Montreal coaching that week will be Coach Irv Daymond with the Offensive Line, Coach Jesse Alexander with the Linebackers and I will help coach the Quarterbacks.

On the field Kwaku Boateng, Jalen Price, Nakas Onyeka and Brandon Calver are all training extremely hard for their opportunity to show what they can do in this All-Star game in Montreal.

Summer Phase for Laurier Football Players
Exams are finally over for our players and this means we are officially into the summer phase of the year, even though it is still April. During this phase, some of our players take summer classes to either get caught up or to get ahead and a good number of our players stay around Kitchener/Waterloo in the summer to work and train with their teammates.

Staying here and training with their teammates is highly encouraged. Being a student athlete definitely takes a 12-month commitment and many of our players have bought into this belief.

High School Football Camps
Our High School Football Camps are quickly approaching are just two weeks away. Junior Day (Grades 9 & 10) will be Saturday, May 7th while Senior Day (Grades 11 & 12) will be held on Sunday, May 8th.
