Laurier football weekly update

CiblbrkXAAAv4OaGolden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

It was a great week in Montreal for the CIS East-West Bowl and our coaches and players all did a fantastic job. We were all members of Team West and came away with an impressive 29-14 win over Team East. Both coordinators Dwayne Cameron and Mark Surya called great games and our players all stood-out during the week.

Both linebackers Nakas Onyeka and Brandon Calver showed toughness all week in practices and Nakas led Team West in tackles with 4.5.

Defensive lineman Jalen Price impressed many CFL scouts at the practices during the week and he was named West Defensive Player of the Week because of that. On gameday, defensive end Kwaku Boateng played like we commonly see him do so here at Laurier and was a disruptive force and had two sacks. Here’s what is happening:

Laurier Alumnus of the Year – Brad Katsuyama
Excited to say that we had the opportunity to listen to and meet with former Laurier Football player and School of Business grad Brad Katsuyama a few weeks ago. Congratulations to Brad as he was on campus to receive his very deserving Laurier Alumnus of the Year award.

High school football camps
Almost 100 high school football players took part in our camps last weekend and we are receiving very positive feedback from both players and parents. Families made the journey from all over Ontario, including as far as Ottawa and North Bay.

Summer runs
We have a good contingent of players that have decided to stay in Kitchener-Waterloo this summer to work and train with their teammates. Our summer on-field workouts begin this week and our players have just three months to prepare for training camp.

Recruiting
Summer football begins this weekend and over the next few months our staff will watch many football games. Between the OVFL and OFC, there are 37 football teams to scout.

Kids Football Camp
The week of July 18th – 22nd. Ages 7-12. http://www.laurierathletics.com/files/camps/Kids Football Camp.pdf
