Laurier football weekly update

This past weekend we had our annual summer OTA (Organized Team Activity). This is a great way to get all of our players that went home for the summer back into Kitchener-Waterloo to be with their teammates. We also encourage the new recruits to come out and meet their teammates along with learning some terminology and our systems, so that training camp doesn’t seem as intimidating.

Amazingly, we had 73 Laurier Football players attend and you can feel the excitement for the season.

League rules allow our coaches to meet with the players, but not practice. We had meetings for about an hour and then the team went out on the field and our great veteran leadership ran through a mock practice.

The OTA also marks the halfway point of the summer for our players. They finished their last exams just under two months ago and, in just under two months from now, we will be starting training camp. Training camp officially starts August 13th. We will get ready very quickly for a preseason game at the University of Montreal on August 20th before starting OUA league play at home August 28th against Queens.

Video Assistant Volunteers
Looking for some help with our filming of practices and games. If you know of anyone that may be interested please have them contact me.

Please help us raise the funds necessary to compete with the CIS best football teams. Consider adopting one of our Hawks today! If you have a positional preference, just reach out to me and I can make suggestions.

Summer Varsity Football
The Cambridge Lions moved to 4-1 this season with an impressive 43-0 win over the Brampton Bulldogs last week and a 48-7 win over the Mississauga Warriors on Saturday. This week, the Lions face the undefeated Niagara Spears on Saturday at 8pm in Niagara.

The Twin City Predators fall to 1-3 this season after losing to the Burlington Stampeders 42-11 two weeks ago. This past week, the Preds had a bye week and this week they will face the Oakville Titans at home at 2:30pm.
