Laurier football weekly update

faulds profile 1Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Training Camp is off to a great start! We have been practicing since Sunday and everyone is gearing up for our big preseason game that will happen this Saturday, August 20th in Montreal against the Montreal Carabins. This will be a great experience and a terrific test for our team.

The Carabins are a team that has been in the last two Vanier Cups, winning it in 2014 against McMaster and losing it last year to UBC. They have experience and talent at all positions and, unlike Ontario universities, the Quebec schools have no 17 or 18 year-olds. All of their players have come through the CEGEP system before going to university.

Our coaches have done a fantastic job keeping the energy high all week and giving great instruction. We have also had the benefit of having some great Laurier Football alumni as guest coaches: Defensive Line Kojo Millington, Defensive Backs Donnie Ruiz, Defensive Line Kyle Armour and Linebackers Anthony Maggiacomo.

Kojo Millington had this to say about his few days here at training camp: “Words cannot express how impressed I am with Coach Faulds and the Laurier Football program. Being an integral part of my development into adulthood, it brings me great pride to see all the hard work and effort that is poured into the team.

“Coach Faulds, Coach VanMoerkerke, Coach Cameron and the rest of the coaching staff are not only building a football field … they are building a family. Something which extends beyond the lines of the football. They are certainly continuing a great program. The staff is not only molding these boys into great football players, they are molding them into great men.”

Here’s what is happening:
