Laurier climbs rankings to #9 in Canada

Following an impressive victory over the York Lions on Monday night, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team rose one spot in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Top 10 rankings that were announced on Tuesday.

Laurier rose from No. 10 to No. 9 after they put up 575 yards of rushing and 814 total yards of offence in a 74-3 victory over the Lions. The 575 rushing yards represents the second most rushing yards an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) team has posted in conference history, trailing only the 637 yards that Laurier recorded against York back in 1974.

The victory moved Laurier into a tie for first place in the OUA with the McMaster Marauders as both teams own 2-0 records following two weeks of play in the conference.

The No. 9 ranking matches the ranking Laurier finished in last season after reaching the OUA Semifinals. It’s the highest the purple and gold have been ranked since reaching the No. 8 spot back on September 6, 2011.
