WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks announced today the football players of the week from their Week 4 victory over the Waterloo Warriors, and they include running back Eric Guiltinan on offence, linebacker Nakas Onyeka  on defence and kicker Nathan Mesher on special teams.

The Laurier Football Players of the Game are recognized weekly at the Quarterback Club luncheon. This week’s luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 29 in the Hawk’s Nest and will run from noon to 1 p.m.

Guiltinan, from London, Ont., had yet another strong game on offence for the Golden Hawks in what was their 13th straight win against the Warriors on Saturday. The fifth year business major opened the scoring early with his first touchdown of the afternoon just two minutes into the game, to give Laurier a 7-0 advantage. Guiltinan would go on to score three more touchdowns in the first half, making him the fifth player in Laurier history to ever score four touchdowns in a single game. Playing just two quarters, Guiltinan ran for 176 yards on 14 carries, giving him a season total of 642 rushing yards, second most in the conference, and seven touchdowns, which tops the OUA on the year.

Linebacker Nakas Onyeka, a Communication Studies major of Brampton, Ont. anchored the Golden Hawks’ defensive efforts during Saturday’s game. The OUA All-Star recorded a total of 7.5 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, and a pass break-up. Following his strong performance, Onyeka currently leads the team in tackles this season, with 23.5 to his name and his 5.5 tackles for a loss tie him for sixth in the conference.

As for Mesher, a native of Waterloo, Ont., he has consistently put points on the Laurier scoreboard, and did not fail to do so on Saturday afternoon as he contributed 10 points in their 68-7 win. The third year business major connected on a 39-yard field goal, his only attempt of the contest, while hitting all seven extra points. Mesher would also finish the day averaging an impressive 43.8 yards per punt.
