TORONTO – Heading into their first home playoff game in six years, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team finds themselves ranked as the fifth-best team in the country as U Sports announced their final Top 10 media poll of the season on Tuesday.

The Hawks, who finished the regular season with a 7-1 record, good for second overall in the OUA, match their highest ranking of the year after they were also ranked fifth in the country in Week 4 of the season.

Laurier begins their run towards capturing their eighth Yates Cup in school history following a year in which they recorded the most touchdowns a Golden Hawks team has ever scored in a single season with 43, the second-most points in school history with 341 and the fourth-most rushing yards in a single season with 2251, their most since the 1970’s.

The purple and gold will square off with the No. 7 McMaster Marauders in the OUA Semifinals this Saturday, November 5, at 1 p.m. The contest is a rematch of last year’s OUA Quarter-final, a game which the Golden Hawks won 29-15.

Tickets for the game can be purchased online at tickets.laurierathletics.com or by visiting the Hawk Desk or U-Desk on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University. The game will also be live on CHCH Television, 570 News in Kitchener-Waterloo and TSN 1150 in Hamilton.
