Laurier football weekly update

CFLCombine17Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

It’s a big week for linebacker Nakas Onyeka, defensive end Kwaku Boateng and defensive tackle Jalen Price as they head out to Regina for the CFL National Combine. What a ride it has been for these three; from a 1-7 season in their rookie year to Yates Cup Champions and now the CFL National Combine in their senior year (FULL STORY).

The rest of the team will also be kept very busy over the next few weeks with football practices really ramping-up. We are allowed 20 off-season practices and we have completed 10 of them so far. Of those ten, three will be  against other OUA competition. Practicing against the same competition can get boring after a while, so we really try and set up practices against other teams. This is something the players can look forward to and really get the competitive juices flowing.

Starting this Friday, we will head down to London to practice with the Western Mustangs at the BMO Centre.

On Friday March 31st we will host the Guelph Gryphons and then the Waterloo Warriors on Thursday April 6th. All of these practices will be a standard format, but against new competition. For instance: 1 on 1’s, inside run, pass skelly and team period (which we normally run in practice Laurier vs Laurier) will now be against another coloured jersey.

Here’s what is happening:
