Laurier football weekly update

Recruiting at the Canada Cup last week in Wolfville, Nova Scotia was a success. Once again, Team Quebec won the gold medal – which is their third consecutive Canada Cup victory. Here are the eight teams that were in the tournament and the place that they finished:

  1. Quebec
  2. Saskatchewan
  3. Ontario
  4. Alberta
  5. British Columbia
  6. Nova Scotia
  7. Manitoba
  8. New Brunswick

Throughout the week, coaches Dwayne Cameron, Irv Daymond and I were able to speak to these top under-18 players from around the country. We watched them practice, play in their respective games and (more importantly) saw how they carry themselves off the field – which is a good judge of character.

Local Summer Football Update
The Cambridge Lions of the OPFL finished the regular season with a 6-2 record and now play the Hamilton Jr Tiger-Cats in the playoffs Saturday night at 8:30pm in Hamilton at Tim Horton’s Field.

The Waterloo Predators of the OVFL finished the season at 3-5 and out of the playoff picture.
