WATERLOO, ON – The No.5 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team announced their players of the week following their 19-6 vicory over the No.7 McMaster Marauders in the OUA Semifinal at University Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Gordon, a third year Sociology major from Mississauga, Ont., takes home offensive honours after the Golden Hawks defeated the Marauders 19-6 in the OUA Semifinals. Once again, Gordon was impressive in leading Laurier’s offense, and started proceedings early in the contest. Posting 52 yards rushing on the opening drive, Gordon finished the eight-play, 71-yard march with a four-yard plunge to stake the Hawks to an early 7-0 lead. Throughout the game, Gordon recorded 21 carries for 121 yards marking him as the offensive pulse that paced the Hawks to this weekend’s Yates Cup rematch.
As for Hutter, the third year Environmental Studies major once again proved to anchor the purple and gold defence. Throughout Saturday’s game, Hutter led a defensive effort that limited the Marauders to just six points on the day. Hutter finished the game with 1.5 tackles, in addition to an interception return and a pass breakup.
Calver, who also hails from London, Ont., was a force on the Hawks’ special teams units Saturday. Calver was instrumental in all of the returns that Carson Ouellette and Kurleigh Gittens Jr posted, as his defensive effort led to good field position for the offence. Furthermore, the fifth year athlete recorded 5.5 tackles and a sack in the contest, along with a pass breakup.
