Laurier football weekly update

20180321 - Kha Vo - Laurier Football 2018_-101Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Spring Camp is here and practices are off to a great start. Mother Nature has cooperated and the field is completely clear and temperatures are above 0 for every practice.

The message to the players every night we go out to practice is that the most meaningful games in this country (Yates Cup & Vanier Cup) are played in weather conditions like this. As much as we wish every game was 20 degrees and sunny, the reality is we have to be battle tested and prepared for all elements. VIEW SPRING CAMP PHOTOS DAY 1 & DAY 2

This whole week of practice is building towards an exciting combined practice Saturday morning in Guelph against the Guelph Gryphons. At this practice, the teams will compete against each other in one-on-ones, pass skelly, inside run and team periods. After so many practices in the off-season against your own team, it is nice to get the competitive juices flowing again against another coloured jersey and opponent.

The final week of off-season training was a very good one and our Hard Hat recipient is one of our most dominant players, but also someone that won’t see his name in the paper because he plays on the offensive line.

For an offensive lineman, there are no stats; no rushing, no passing yards, no sacks, no interceptions, no tackles and no touchdowns. The offensive line prides themselves on the unit and the common goals of that unit. The Hard Hat recipient for Week #10 is OL Drew Mairleitner. VIEW PRACTICE PHOTOS
