Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

The 2018 CFL Draft was last night and what a night it was for three of our Laurier Golden Hawks.

Godfrey Onyeka, Isaiah Guzylak-Messam and Rashari Henry all got to hear their names being called by CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.

Godfrey starting things off and went in the second round (10th pick overall) to the Edmonton Eskimos, where he will join former Golden Hawk star Kwaku Boateng.

Isaiah went in the fourth round (34th pick overall) to the BC Lions. Shortly thereafter, Rashari went in the sixth round (47th overall pick) to the BC Lions as well.

Rashari CFL Draft

We wish all three the best as CFL training camps begin in just a few weeks.

Five other Golden Hawk football players had an exciting week as the USports Valero East-West Bowl teams were announced.

Receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr, running back Levondre Gordon, defensive tackle Trevaughan James, offensive lineman Drew Mairleitner, and defensive end Robbie Smith will all head to Quebec City next week to perform in front of all nine CFL teams. FULL STORY

This really sets the stage for next year’s draft. If you remember, Godfrey, Isaiah and Rashari were our East-West players last year and a year later they were drafted.
