Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

What a first week of camp we have had. When you combine the amount of plays/systems we have on offence, defence and special teams, with the talent and effort we are seeing on the field every day, this is the best training camp we have had in the six years our staff has been together.

Now, does that mean we are a lock to win the Yates & Vanier Cups? Of course not. This is a long 3 ½ month season, but where we are right now should have everyone in and around the program excited for some good football.

After a week of that tiring regimen, we will play a pre-season game against the McGill Redman tonight at 6:30pm. [WATCH ONLINE]

Upon returning from McGill, we will have more than a week to prepare for our Week One opponent, the Ottawa Gee-Gees – who we host on Sunday, August 26th at 1pm at University Stadium.

What we do is much more than just football:
We’re all really happy with our program and the relationship we have with the Light House, which provides programs for adults with developmental disabilities. It is very natural in training camp when it is hot out and you are exhausted mentally and physically to start feeling sorry for yourself. Then the people from the Light House show up to our practice and all of those thoughts go away. The energy, excitement and smiles they bring is contagious and our whole team is instantly uplifted!

I’m thrilled to say that, each year, the relationship grows and this year the Light House got the attention they deserve. Please take the time to read the great article from the Waterloo Region Record and watch the video coverage from CTV Kitchener. [SEE MORE]
