WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team have announced their players of the week following the team’s Week 1 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday afternoon.
Gordon, a native of Mississauga, Ont., led the Hawks’ offence in the opening half, rushing for over 100 yards while adding two touchdowns to give Laurier a 16-point lead at the break. He would finish the game with 109 yards on 14 carries and his two touchdowns moved him into a tie for fifth on Laurier’s all-time rushing touchdowns list.
Amoah, a native of Kitchener, Ont., recorded his first career interception and added 3.5 tackles to help the Hawks hold a potent passing attack to just 250 yards. Amoah’s third quarter interception came at a key point in the contest in which the Gee-Gees were starting to show signs of a comeback.
Mesher, a native of Waterloo, Ont., started off his fourth year at Laurier with a strong performance, going 3-for-3 on field goals while averaging 40.7 yards per punt. He would wind up the day with 13 total points, moving him three points shy of Jerry Gulyes for fourth on Laurier’s all-time scoring list.
