WATERLOO, ON – The No. 4 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team have announced their players of the week following the team’s Week 2 victory over the No. 9 Queen’s Gaels on Sunday evening.
Kurleigh Gittens Jr. – Receiver
Gittens Jr., a native of Ottawa, was at the forefront of Laurier’s offence against the Gaels as the fourth-year sociology major hauled in 12 catches for 178 yards, both the second-best single game performances of his career, along with a touchdown. The 12 receptions ties him with Stefan Ptaszek for fourth most in a single game in team history while his 178 yards are good for fifth most in a single game in Laurier history.
Ron Kinga – Defensive Back
Kinga, a native of Guelph, Ont., was a presence in the secondary for the purple and gold as the fifth-year communications studies major played a key role in limiting Queen’s to 222 yards passing. Playing with great intensity, Kinga finished the game with one tackle, giving him 3.5 on the season so far.
Jon Timmons – Long Snapper
Timmons, a native of Mississauga, Ont., continued to show on Sunday why he has been such a key part of Laurier’s special teams over his five seasons. The fifth-year history major picked up the 19th special teams tackle of his career in the victory while delivering four perfect punt snaps and four perfect field goal snaps.
