Laurier football weekly update

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

We are saddened by the news of the passing of Laurier football alum and former Waterloo Warriors Head Coach Chris Triantafilou. Chris was such a big part of football in the Kitchener-Waterloo community for so many years, both as a player and a coach.

Chris’s story and visitation details can be found here.

Our season came to an end last Saturday in London as we were defeated 46-13 by the Western Mustangs. The defence and special teams kept us close and the halftime score was 17-13, but we simply couldn’t move the ball into a position to score to make it interesting.

The 2018 season was disappointing as our final record was 4-4 and we missed the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

It was a year of adversity, season-ending injuries, three straight losses by a total of six points and we could never gain momentum.

We are not ones to make excuses. You either win the football game or you don’t, and we need to get much better at closing out football games.

In that three-game losing streak, we had leads of 13, 9 and 17 points and still managed to lose. The closing out of games will be a focus going forward.

Looking ahead, we are confident with the returning players we have. In fact, we are continuing to practice weekly, we are in the gym in the early morning and our staff is out getting a jump start on recruiting. We will update throughout the off-season on the new recruit additions we are able to sign.
