Laurier football update – January 2019

img_5483Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

This newsletter is brought to you by our great friends and the best movers AMJ Campbell.

We are currently in week three of our off-season training and what a start it has been. Our players have been kept extremely busy with four early morning wake-ups a week, three spent lifting weights and one used for speed work, conditioning and agility.

On top of that, we meet once a week for film study and system review along with our weekly practices at the indoor field at RIM Park. We then hand out the Hard Hat Award at the end of every week to the offensive and defensive players that worked the hardest in all areas.

For week one, it was linebacker Shomari Hutchinson and offensive lineman Bryce Bell. For week two, linebacker Tanner Cadwallader and running back Kavantye Bailey were recognized for their efforts.

We had our players and parents annual Laurier Football Banquet a few weeks ago at the newly renovated Turret on campus. Thank you to Jeyas and his staff for putting together a great meal and being such great hosts. Our terrific emcee for the night was Dan Polischuk and the evening included handing out many awards, hearing our graduating seniors speak and watching the yearly highlight video.

A special thank you to Peter Izzio who gave our football program a cheque for $2,300 at the banquet because of his “Score to Win” program. For every touchdown or field goal at a home game Pete donating $100.

Another special presentation was from the Annual Gary Jeffries Golf Tournament where proceeds go to Laurier Football scholarships. Thank you to Coach Jeff and Andy Baechler who were in attendance to honour defensive end Robbie Smith with this years award.
