Ten Golden Hawks Participating in CFL Regional and National Combines This Week

Ten Laurier Golden Hawk Football players will be participating in the Regional and National CFL Combines this week.

The Regional Combine is taking place in Toronto on Thursday, March 21st, including some of the best players from the OUA. Participants will have their official measurements taken, and participate in speed, strength, and conditioning tests. The players will then take part in competitive positional one-on-one drills. Eight Golden Hawks will be participating Thursday, including:

  • DB Scott Hutter
  • DB Malcom Thompson
  • DT Trevaughan James
  • RB LeVondre Gordon
  • RB/FB Osayi Iginuan
  • FB Mario Villamizar
  • OL Drew Mairleitner
  • K Nathan Meshner

With a good showing on Thursday, these guys have a chance at being invited back for the CFL National Combine, which takes place from March 22-24th, also taking place in Toronto.

If so, they would join WR Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and DE Robbie Smith, who ranked 9th and 12th respectively on December’s edition of the CFL Scouting Bureau’s Top 20. Gittens Jr. and Smith, who were the top ranked OUA players on the list, are looking to bolster already impressive resume’s and improve their draft stock. Smith recently appeared at #6 in Marshall Ferguson’s first CFL Mock Draft on CFL.com.

Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds had this to say about the Laurier players repping the purple and gold in Toronto later this week:

“We are pumped for all 10 players participating this week at the CFL Combine. They have earned this opportunity by working extremely hard over the past 4 years. They are all prepared and we are excited to see them have bright futures on and off the field.”

The men are ready for the challenges that lie ahead of them, preparing for the combine along with trainer Jesse Collins since the conclusion of the OUA season, as well as training with Golden Hawk Football alumni such as Kwaku Boateng, currently starring for the Edmonton Eskimos, among others. Best of luck to the guys in Toronto on Thursday and this weekend!
