Todd Galloway hired as MFOOT offensive coordinator
WATERLOO, Ont. (January 28, 2020) – Wilfrid Laurier University men’s football head coach Michael Faulds is pleased to announce the addition of Todd Galloway to the Golden Hawks coaching staff where he will serve full-time in the role of Offensive Coordinator and Student-Athlete Development.
Galloway, a Golden Hawks alumnus who played four seasons for the purple and gold between 2000 and 2003, and was a member of the 2005 Vanier Cup coaching staff, returns to Laurier following stints as a coach with the St. Mary’s Huskies, Guelph Gryphons and, most recently, the McMaster Marauders.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so excited and honoured to be able to come back to my alma mater and give back,” said Galloway on the appointment. “Wilfrid Laurier has always held a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to get to know the student-athletes and get started. I am also very thankful to McMaster and Coach Ptaszek for letting me be a part of their family last year.”
“We are thrilled with the addition of Coach Galloway to our football program,” commented Faulds on the addition to his staff. “Todd’s experience and success is very impressive and he will help this program in so many ways. Being the offensive coordinator obviously means he will call plays on game days, but this role is much bigger than that. Todd will be instrumental in recruiting, mentorship and guidance of players, alumni relations and more.”
Galloway brings 17 years of coaching experience in U SPORTS to the position. Following his time as a receiver’s coach with the Golden Hawks between 2004 and 2006, the Resurrection CSS graduate moved on to the Maritimes, serving on the Huskies coaching staff, while also coaching high school football.
He returned to Ontario in 2011, joining the Guelph Gryphons where he spent eight seasons serving in a variety of capacities, including offensive coordinator, director of recruiting and finally, interim head coach for the 2018 season. During his time with the Gryphons, he oversaw the growth of their program as the team made four Yates Cup appearances during his time, winning the championship in 2015. As offensive coordinator, he helped Guelph become one of the most dynamic offensive teams in the country, setting school records for touchdowns in a season in consecutive years in 2014 and 2015.
Last year, serving as the recruiting coordinator and quarterback coach for the 2019 Yates Cup champion Marauders, Galloway developed the team’s starting quarterback into one of the top three in the country in completions, yards and touchdowns.
“Coach Galloway will provide leadership and support to our student-athletes both on and off the field,” said Ryan Lannan, the Golden Hawks Associate Director of Interuniversity Sport Programs. “His pedigree within the sport and the commitment he has to ensure a holistic student athlete experience is at the forefront of coaching philosophy. We are excited to welcome Todd back to the purple and gold and I look forward to seeing the impact he will have within our program.”
Galloway holds both an Honours BSc Biology degree from Wilfrid Laurier as well as a MSc Medical Sciences degree from McMaster University. He will begin working with the Golden Hawks coaching staff immediately and officially begin his new role on May 1.
