Laurier Football Update – September

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

This newsletter is brought to you by our great friends and the best movers, AMJ Campbell.

Join us tomorrow evening, Tuesday, September 14th, at 8:30pm for a Laurier Football Town Hall. To register: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0pf-2orTMrGtUMzXiqgKQLE7WcPnWeo4CP

Our 2021 training camp was a success! We have a great combination of veteran players, like on offense: Quarterback Connor Carusello, Linemen Braydon Noll & Alex Pigozzo, Tight End Cal Taylor, and Receivers Ente Eguavoen, Nick Petermann, Romy Simpson, and Kavantye Bailey. On defense veterans like Defensive Backs Will Amoah & Christian Hutter-Coppin, Linebackers Tommy Bringi & Mitch Rooney, and Defensive Lineman Brandon Omonuwa & James Fleurissaint are all back. When you combine all of these veterans and more, with the last two talented recruiting classes there is lots of excitement and optimism for this 2021 season.

We concluded a very good training camp this past weekend with our Purple vs Gold scrimmage. We simply divided the roster in half, had OUA officials calling the game, and for the first time in 18 months played real tackle football. We played a shortened four 8 minute quarters game and everyone got some much needed game experience before the regular season begins this upcoming weekend.

The focus now flips from training camp mode, to regular season mode and our preparation for the York Lions, who we host this Saturday, September 18th at 1pm. The first regular season game is always tough to prepare for, but with both teams, having not played in the last year it makes things even more interesting. What we know is that Coach Craney will have his Lions prepared and as we have seen in the OUA over the last several years, every single game is important and up for grabs. Look no further than the RSEQ conference, which in week two of their season saw both the Montreal Carabins & Laval Rouge et Or lose. Every week you have to prepare for your opponent to play their best game and that is what we will do with the York Lions.
