Friends of Laurier Football Corporate Dinner

WATERLOO, ON (April 24, 2015) – On Thursday night, the Wilfrid Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted the 16th annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner, presented by Sun Life Financial, at the Waterloo Inn.

The event raised over $50,000 which will directly benefit the Golden Hawks football program.

Highlighting the evening was guest speaker Dennis Mitchell, a former Golden Hawk running back and current Executive Vice President and CIO for Sentry Investments. As well, the 2005 Vanier Cup Championship team was honoured with a video tribute, the first in a series of celebrations over the course of the next year recognizing the 10 year anniversary of Wilfrid Laurier’s second national championship.

Head Coach Michael Faulds also delivered his annual State of the Program address which highlighted the outstanding recruiting class that the Hawks have secured as well as provided an outlook for the upcoming 2015 season.

The Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner is a fundraising initiative of the Laurier Golden Hawk Football program. To date, the event has raised over $900,000 for the Golden Hawk football program. The funds are directed into enhancements and support, such as equipment, academic assistance, coaching support and facilities.

Laurier will open their 2015 season on the road for the seventh consecutive season when they travel to Toronto to take on the York Lions on Sunday, August 30. The Hawks will play their home opener two weeks later when they face the Western Mustangs on Saturday, September 12 in a rematch of last year’s OUA Quarter-final.
