WATERLOO — Over his five years at Wilfrid Laurier University, Dillon Campbell has seen his share of books.
And when he graduates, his name will be inscribed in one that will stay behind.
Campbell’s record-setting performance as a running back for the Golden Hawks continued in this, his fifth year with the program, when he established a all-time career rushing yards mark. His 241 yards in an Oct. 3 game against Waterloo gave him 3,069 for his career, eclipsing the record of 3,061 by Andy Cecchini.
WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks announced today the football players of the week for Week 7 of the season and they include quarterback Eric Morelli on offence, defensive lineman Asante Mizan on defence, and cover Darian Waite on special teams.
The Laurier Football Players of the Game are recognized weekly at the Quarterback Club luncheon. This week’s luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 15 in the Hawk’s Nest and will run from noon to 1 p.m.
Eric Morelli had his way with the Gee-Gees defence on Friday night, as the second-year quarterback threw the ball with relative ease as the Golden Hawks downed Ottawa 65-30.
The second-year business student-athlete tied the Laurier single-game record with six touchdowns on the day, finding three different receivers for scores in the game. Morelli now accompanies legendary Golden Hawk Bill Kubas as the only other Laurier quarterback to throw that many touchdowns in a game.
WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team put together their most complete performance of the season on Friday night as they defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 65-30 at University Stadium.
In a battle between two teams fighting for the sixth and final playoff spot, Laurier made a statement as they posted a season-best 41 first-half points, and would finish the night with the most points the team has scored under head coach Michael Faulds. The win improves the Hawks to 3-3, and gives them sole possession of sixth place in the OUA, while the Gee-Gees fall to 2-4.

WATERLOO — That football assembly line at Wilfrid Laurier University spit out a pair CFL first-round draft picks earlier this year.
All-star defenders Chris Ackie and Ese Mrabure-Ajufo received their quality assurance stickers and have taken their considerable talents and team-leading ways to the Montreal Alouettes and B.C. Lions, respectively.
So now, like they do every year, it’s time for a new generation of Golden Hawks to roll off the line.
Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,
It felt good to get back into the win column on Saturday at Waterloo’s homecoming. The emphasis on discipline during the week of practice definitely paid off and we dropped from 20 penalties against Windsor to just 8 on Saturday and came away with a 42-0 win.
