Phil Edworthy – Linebackers Coach


Coach Edworthy is entering his 6th season with Laurier as the Linebacker Coach.  During his time at Laurier he has helped develop two former OUA All-Stars and current CFL Linebackers Nakas Onyeka and Brandon Calver, along with 2020 CFL draft pick Brad Cowan and 2019 First Team OUA All-Star Tommy Bringi.

Prior to Joining Laurier, coach Edworthy spent seven seasons coaching with the Cambridge Lions Varsity Program, three of which he was the Head Coach of their OMFL Varsity team. Under his leadership, the team completed two undefeated seasons, winning back-to-back league championships.

Coach Edworthy is a high school teacher with the Waterloo Region District School Board and has been heavily involved in coaching WCSSAA high school football for 15 seasons, spending time at Galt, Bluevale, Southwood, Cameron Heights, and now Jacob Hespeler. In his 2 seasons with the Hawks they have won 2 WCSSAA championships, a CWOSSA championship and an OFSAA championship.

Coach Edworthy also runs MVP Football Academy, which features various football development programs for kids, including their Elite 7v7 program that travels to the US to play in tournaments. In their 4 years of operation they have had 14 players receive NCAA scholarship offers and close to 30 players that have gone on to play U-Sports football.

In his personal life, Coach Edworthy lives in Burlington with his wife Yen and their two children, Kaleb and Rozalynn.
