Phil Edworthy – Linebackers Coach

Phil Edworthy has been the Linebacker and Special Teams Assistant coach for Laurier since the 2015 season.  He helped develop two former OUA All-Stars and current CFL Linebackers Nakas Onyeka and Brandon Calver, alongside former Linebacker Coach Jesse Alexander. 

Prior to Joining Laurier, coach Edworthy spent seven seasons coaching with the Cambridge Lions Varsity Program, three of which he was the Head Coach of their OMFL Varsity team. Under his leadership, the team completed two undefeated seasons, winning back to back league championships. 

Coach Edworthy is a high school teacher with the Waterloo Region District School Board and has been heavily involved in coaching WCSSAA high school football for 12 seasons, spending time at Galt, Bluevale, Southwood, and Cameron Heights. 

Coach Edworthy also runs MVP Football Academy, which features various football development programs for kids, including their Elite 7v7 program that travels to the US to play in tournaments. 

In his personal life, Coach Edworthy lives in Burlington with his wife Yen and their two year-old son Kaleb.
