Steven Frake is entering his 10th season coaching Receivers with Laurier and 2020 will be his 16th season at the USports level.
Steven enjoyed a five-year career playing at Laurier while studying Honours Kinesiology. He played his first two years at receiver before switching over to defensive back. After his 4th year he was drafted to the Montreal Alouettes as a DB. He returned to Laurier in 2004 for a 5th year and as a team captain helped the Hawks capture their first Yates Cup since 1991.
Steven would join the Golden Hawks as a Coach in 2006 where he served as the Assistant Defensive Backs Coach, Defensive Scout Team Coach, and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. That year he also created the Athlete Academic Success Program. He became the Receivers Coach in 2007 while still serving as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
In 2013, Steven would become the Receivers Coach for the Guelph Gryphons. Over the next six years he coached in three Yates Cup games including a victory in 2015. Steven returned to the Golden Hawks in 2019.
In 14 years, Steven has coached 14 OUA All-Stars, 4 All-Canadians, and 8 players have been selected in the CFL Draft.
Steven works for the Waterloo Region District School Board. He lives in Kitchener with his wife Ashley and their two sons, Jethro and Jagger.
