HAmberLaurier Football is pleased to announce the commitment of fullback Ben Hamber.

Standing 6’2″ tall and 225 lbs from London South High School, Hamber is a two-time Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA – London) Conference All-Star. He was an effective two-way starter for the Lions, playing both the fullback and defensive end positions.

Hamber had a major role in South’s undefeated regular season (6-0) and their march to the TVRA Conference Championship Game where they eventually lost to perennial powerhouse program A.B. Lucas HS (and fellow incoming Laurier Football commit QB Tristan Arndt).

Golden Hawk alumni and friends of the football program,

It is currently very quiet, as the university is in Reading Week. Many of our players have made the journeys home for the week and they get to recharge their batteries for the second half of the semester.

We have asked the players to enjoy their break and rest up physically and mentally, but to also make sure they dedicate four hours a day to their school work. If they do this, they will return to campus with no regrets and they will feel confident that they can have academic success this semester.

He also earned a position on Team Ontario for this past summer’s Canada Cup Tournament in Quebec; an event where he helped the team win a silver medal.

Ireyomi actually committed to Laurier last week in Arlington where he and Coach Cameron were reunited again in this year’s International Bowl.

SzatmariLaurier Football is very happy to announce the commitment of linebacker Daniel Szatmari from Canada Prep High School in Welland, Ontario.

Szatmari’s journey to Canada Prep is an interesting one. Born in Toronto, Daniel moved to his parent’s native country of Hungary. While growing-up, he learned to play “American” football. His passion for the sport led him to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba to attend high school, where he attended and played for St. Paul’s Catholic High School.

The 6’1 220 lb Szatmari is a very physical player and competes to challenge himself to his limits. He is projected to play at the middle linebacker position for the Hawks and brings a combination of toughness and athleticism that will serve him well during his time as a Golden Hawk.

As a  6’2″, 205 lb linebacker,  Cowan currently attends South Carleton High School in Richmond, Ontario. He has been a “hybrid” player for the Norsemen, playing both at the defensive end and linebacker position.

Cowan is a multi-sport athlete, having  played hockey as well. Off the field, he trains with former Golden Hawk player (and Laurier Athletics Hall Of Famer) Donnie Ruiz. Ruiz has high hopes for his pupil.
