TORONTO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team will have five players suit up for the 2018 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl as the rosters for the annual showcase for the top Canadian football prospects were announced on Tuesday.

The Vanier Cup finalist Université Laval will host the 2018 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl for the second consecutive year, which features U SPORTS football players heading into their CFL draft year. The 16th annual top prospects game will be played at TELUS-U.L. Stadium on Saturday, May 12 at 12:30 p.m. ET. Livestreaming details will be confirmed at a later date.

It took Noel Franklin, a wide receiver from Saunders Secondary School, a while to get into football, but when he did, it didn’t take long for him to catch the attention of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

When Franklin started his career with the London Minor Football Association, football was more of a time filler than anything serious. He said he played football on the side and after soccer. It wasn’t until grade 12, after
he transferred from Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, that he began to dedicate all his time and energy to the sport.

QUEBEC CITY (U SPORTS) – Wayne Harris Jr. of the Vanier Cup finalist Calgary Dinos and Gary Waterman of the AUS champion StFX X-Men were introduced to the media Tuesday in Quebec city as head coaches ahead of the 2017 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl.

Harris Jr., who guided the Dinos to their fourth national championship appearance in eight seasons in November, will be at the helm of the West team on Saturday, while Waterman, who led the X-Men to a second straight national semifinal, will be in charge of the East squad – in a coaching rematch of the 2016 ArcelorMittal Dofasco Mitchell Bowl.
