TORONTO, ON – A pair of Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football players find themselves among the Top 20 prospects for May’s CFL Draft as the league announced its final Scouting Bureau rankings on Thursday.

Defensive backs Godfrey Onyeka of Brampton, Ont., and Isaiah Guzylak-Messam of Hamilton, head into next month’s draft ranked 10th and 20th respectively after showcasing their skills at last month’s CFL Combine.

For years, Kene and Godfrey Onyeka and their football-playing cousins have pushed each other to be better.

It’s a healthy competition in a journey that took Kene to Ottawa’s Carleton University and Godfrey to Waterloo’s Wilfrid Laurier University — where each found excellence. In the winter Canadian Football League’s Scouting Bureau rankings, Godfrey, a defensive back, was ranked sixth; Kene, a defensive lineman, was ranked 14th.

Golden Hawk alumni & friends of the football program,

Last week was the best week of the off-season. The players tested in the gym and the energy at practice was fantastic.

We had two Hard Hat Award recipients and they both have a lot in common; they are both in first year, they are lineman, they are naturally quiet and lead by example, they are terrific students and they both had over 400lb squats on testing day.

TORONTO, ON – Four members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team will have the opportunity to showcase their talents to CFL teams in the coming weeks as the league announced the participant lists for their regional and national combines on Monday.

Three Golden Hawks, including Godfrey Onyeka of Brampton, Ont., Isaiah Guzylak-Messam of Hamilton, and Rashari Henry of Ottawa, will attend the national combine during Mark’s CFL Week from March 24-25 in Winnipeg while Ron Kinga of Guelph, Ont., will look to earn an invitation to the national combine when he attends the Ontario regional combine on March 9 in Toronto.

TORONTO, ON – Godfrey Onyeka, a defensive back from Wilfrid Laurier University, is once again the top-ranked U SPORTS player on the second prospect list released by the CFL’s Scouting Bureau in advance of the league’s 2018 Canadian Draft.

Fourteen U SPORTS standouts cracked the latest top 20 published on Wednesday, compared to 15 on the Aug. 30 list.

BURLINGTON, ON – Eight members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team were honoured as OUA All-Stars, for a total of 10 positions, on Wednesday as the conference announced the first and second team award recipients ahead of Saturday’s 110th Yates Cup championship game.

Headlining the list of recipients is Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of Ottawa, who was named as an OUA First Team All-Star at both receiver and returner. In doing so, he becomes just the second Golden Hawk to ever be named a first team all-star at multiple positions in the same season, joining former Laurier great Ian Logan who accomplished the feat in 2005.
