HAMILTON, ON – Following another strong season, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team had two players recognized as U SPORTS All-Canadians as the year-end awards were handed out during the All-Canadian Awards Gala at the Hamilton Convention Centre.
WATERLOO, ON – The No.5 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team announced their players of the week following their 75-32 loss against the No.2 Western Mustangs in the 110th Yates Cup OUA Championship in London on Saturday afternoon.
BURLINGTON, ON – It was a season for the record books for Laurier Golden Hawks’ receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr.(Ottawa, Ont.) and for his efforts on the field, he has been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Most Valuable Player and the conference nominee for the U SPORTS Hec Crighton Trophy.
It’s no surprise that Gittens Jr.’s name can be found at the top of several statistical categories, as the First-Team All-Star on both offence and special teams was a dual-threat this year, helping the Golden Hawks to a second place finish in regular season play.
BURLINGTON, ON – Eight members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team were honoured as OUA All-Stars, for a total of 10 positions, on Wednesday as the conference announced the first and second team award recipients ahead of Saturday’s 110th Yates Cup championship game.
Headlining the list of recipients is Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of Ottawa, who was named as an OUA First Team All-Star at both receiver and returner. In doing so, he becomes just the second Golden Hawk to ever be named a first team all-star at multiple positions in the same season, joining former Laurier great Ian Logan who accomplished the feat in 2005.
WATERLOO, ON – Buoyed by record-setting performances from receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and defensive lineman Robbie Smith, the No. 7 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team defeated the No. 5 McMaster Marauders 40-15 on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium to clinch second place in the OUA standings.
Gittens Jr., a native of Ottawa, led the Hawks’ offensive barrage against the second-ranked defence in the country as he had 10 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. In the process, he became the U SPORTS single-season receptions leader with 75 and Laurier’s single-season receiving yards leader with 953.
WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team has announced the Players of the Game following a 29-13 Homecoming defeat at the hands of the Western Mustangs. This past Saturday’s loss was the Hawks’ first of the season and dropped their record to 4-1.
WATERLOO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team has announced its players of the game following a 71-24 win over the Waterloo Warriors Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks moved to 4-0 on the season and extended their winning streak against the previously unbeaten Warriors (4-1) to 14 games.
This week’s Laurier Football Players of the Week (offence, defence, special teams) are: receiver Brentyn Hall (Toronto, Ont.), defensive lineman Sam Acheampong (Brampton, Ont.) and receiver/returner Kurleigh Gittens Jr. (Ottawa, Ont.).

Receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. (Ottawa, Ont.) is this week’s offensive player of the week, while defensive end Robbie Smith (Brampton, Ont.) takes home the honours for defence and linebacker Daniel Fitzgerald (London, Ont.) is recognized for his contributions on special teams.
