The preseason game at McGill last Friday night went very well. It is always good to come away with a big 33-9 victory on the road but, more importantly, we gained valuable experience.

MONTREAL – Buoyed by a strong defensive effort and a pair of late fourth quarter touchdowns, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team earned their first non-conference win under head coach Michael Faulds as they downed the McGill Redmen 33-9 on Friday night at Percival Molson Stadium.

What a first week of camp we have had. When you combine the amount of plays/systems we have on offence, defence and special teams, with the talent and effort we are seeing on the field every day, this is the best training camp we have had in the six years our staff has been together.

August is here! This means that we don’t have to wait much longer for the football season. Our whole team (coaches, players and staff) will report to training camp on Thursday, August 9th. We will very quickly dive right into a schedule that will see the team waking up at 6:30am and not returning to their rooms until about 9:30pm. The days will be filled with practices, meetings, therapy, meals, workouts and more.

Had things gone a little differently back during his high school days, Kwaku Boateng might be hauling in passes for the Edmonton Eskimos, instead of hauling down quarterbacks.
Turns out, though, what made him a bit of a liability on offence made him a star on defence and the 23-year-old from Milton, Ontario, is parlaying that quality into emergence as a premier CFL defensive end.

MEXICO CITY – Wilfrid Laurier University men’s football offensive lineman Alex Pigozzo will enter his second season with the Golden Hawks as a gold medalist after helping Team Canada win the 2018 IFAF U19 World Championship this past Sunday.

Amazingly, we are just six weeks away from training camp! The players are working extremely hard this summer and many made it back to campus for our player run practice on June 24th. In fact, 89 players were in town and took part in meetings, which coaches could take part in and then the players went out to the field and the senior players ran the 90 minute practice.

KITCHENER — There seems to be a dominant theme when you speak to anyone who knew retired teacher, principal and sports coach Mike Sitko: He was a really nice guy.
Longtime friend and mentor Tuffy Knight, who served as head coach of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks football team, remembers meeting a teenage Mike in the 1970s for the first time. The coach had been scouting for talent, as he did every year, inviting prospective players to visit Laurier’s campus.

BURNABY, BC — It’s so easy to get caught up in the out-of-nowhere ascent that Tyler Eckert made as a raw rookie running back last season.
So much so that you chuckle every time you remind yourself that the 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior with Burnaby’s St. Thomas More Knights is actually about as natural and instinctive a sack artist as we’ve seen over the recent history of B.C. high school football.
