WATERLOO — The freshman walked into the first training camp with his new team and searched for his name on one of the posted depth charts.

It was nowhere to be found.

Mario Pineda recalls the reality jolt like it happened yesterday, saying it played a role in his rise to a starting position with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks football team.

BURLINGTON, ON – Following impressive debuts during the 2017 season, three members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team were announced as OUA All-Rookies on Tuesday afternoon.

Running back Kavantye Bailey of Calgary, receiver Nick Petermann of Hamilton and linebacker Mario Pineda of Cambridge, Ont., were among the 26 players honoured this season by the conference.
