TORONTO, ON – Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and defensive lineman Robbie Smith are among the top prospects for the 2019 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft as the league announced its Fall Scouting Bureau rankings on Thursday.
Gittens Jr., a native of Ottawa, comes in ranked as the fourth-best U SPORTS prospect and 13th overall on the list of Top 20 draft eligible players while Smith, from Brampton, Ont., is the sixth-best U SPORTS prospect and 15th overall.
WATERLOO — Wilfrid Laurier University’s Golden Hawks football team invited some No. 1 fans to return to training camp this summer.
Die-hard Hawks fans from Light House, a Kitchener organization that provides programming for adults with developmental disabilities, came out to University Stadium on Tuesday morning to show their support for their favourite team.
TORONTO, ON – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team will have five players suit up for the 2018 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl as the rosters for the annual showcase for the top Canadian football prospects were announced on Tuesday.
The Vanier Cup finalist Université Laval will host the 2018 U SPORTS Valero East-West Bowl for the second consecutive year, which features U SPORTS football players heading into their CFL draft year. The 16th annual top prospects game will be played at TELUS-U.L. Stadium on Saturday, May 12 at 12:30 p.m. ET. Livestreaming details will be confirmed at a later date.
TORONTO, ON – Four members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team will have the opportunity to showcase their talents to CFL teams in the coming weeks as the league announced the participant lists for their regional and national combines on Monday.
Three Golden Hawks, including Godfrey Onyeka of Brampton, Ont., Isaiah Guzylak-Messam of Hamilton, and Rashari Henry of Ottawa, will attend the national combine during Mark’s CFL Week from March 24-25 in Winnipeg while Ron Kinga of Guelph, Ont., will look to earn an invitation to the national combine when he attends the Ontario regional combine on March 9 in Toronto.
KINGSTON, ON — Robbie Smith (Brampton, Ont.) set a Laurier record while Michael Knevel (Brantford, Ont.) had another career day as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team beat the Queen’s Gaels 40-17 Saturday afternoon. On a hot, muggy day at Richardson Stadium in Kingston, the Golden Hawks dominated the time of possession battle, wearing down the Queen’s defence as Knevel threw for 399 yards, setting a new career high for the third straight week. The Laurier quarterback also threw four touchdown passes, marking another career best.
WATERLOO, ON – The No.6 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team has announced their Players of the Week following their Week 2 victory over the Carleton Ravens on Saturday night, to pace the Hawks to 2-0 on the season. The athletes recognized include running back Levondre Gordon on offence, defensive back Isaiah Guzylak-Messsam on defence and kicker Nathan Mesher on special teams.
Not long after Carlstad Crusaders linebacker Mattias Eriksson had won the 2017 Swedish championship with the Crusaders,he headed off to Canada and Wilfrid Laurier University to study for a semester and try out for the school’s football team. His plan was to battle for a roster spot.
WATERLOO, ON – Wilfrid Laurier University men’s football player Godfrey Onyeka of Brampton, Ont., was among the Top 20 Canadian prospects for the 2018 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft as the league’s Scouting Bureau announced the first rankings of the year on Wednesday afternoon.
Onyeka has been named the fourth overall prospect and the top USports player in the first CFL Scouting Bureau List for the 2018 draft. This marks the second consecutive year in which a Laurier player is the top ranked USports athlete in the initial rankings, with Kwaku Boatang opening at sixth overall in 2016.
WATERLOO, ON – Following their 2016 Yates Cup win and the first victory to start the season, the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks men’s football team was ranked No. 6 in the U Sports football national ranks that were announced Tuesday morning.
The Hawks (1-0-0), are currently tied for first in the OUA standings after their shutout victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues this past Sunday.
